Methodology of Resource Development

As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

Methodology of Resource Development

Resources in this instance refer to materials with information gathered or created to increase the public understanding of risk.

• Keep hard-copy of articles or books in D0.12 Resource Filing system, under categories or topics as listed on Drupal website. Resource materials are to be mostly categorically matched to and created from the website as the website has an automated system of filing (through tags) and determining what is of popular interest.
• Keep hard-copy files tracked online through web links with the article or book, and associated links if article itself is not available.
• May keep a spreadsheet of titles of materials added to hard-copy files
• Keep ongoing book reviews on website.
• Websites on Drupal will be tagged to go on Delicious if they are not there already. Web links passed around on email or those websites on hard-copy resource materials will be tagged on Delicious.
• RSS feeds on Drupal website to be checked and sorted to determine what possible topics are most popular
