Cambridge Coincidences Collection

Well I Never!

Professor David Spiegelhalter of Cambridge University wants to know about your coincidences!

Keys

I lived in a house in Buntingford and found that my front door key (yale type) fitted a cupboard door in a power station in Romania where I was working when I needed to get some technical supplies for which the keys weren't available

Best friend coincidence

Susan and I were best friends at school, saw each other at lot socially (we noticed our thoughts/ideas coinciding enough to think we had something special going on). We attended each others wedding (and I moved to a different county) and hadn't seen each other since. Then we each fell pregnant with our first child, and discovered they were both due on the same day: 28th November 1990 - and were born on consecutive days.

Milkman

We were having a family holiday in the Algarve when the children were young and whilst sunbathing topless on the beach decided to cool off in the sea. As I was walking towards to water I heard a voice say 'hello Mrs R'. I looked up and saw it was my milkman and he wasn't looking at my face!

Reading at distance

My son was travelling round the world in 2006 and one day rang me up from a hostel in New Zealand. After 20 minutes or so of conversation I casually picked up a book from a bookshelf and at the same time thought I would ask if he had had a chance to read anything on his travels. He replied that he had been at the hostel for a few days and had been reading a certain book from their stock of books. It was exactly the same book that I had casually selected from my bookshelf!

A Dream Come True

Some years ago, I dreamt that my boss, who was well in her 40's, got married. I told her the next day. She laughed telling me that she had nobody in her life. Two months later she told me she had met this wonderful man and they were getting married.

Mr Hugh Coulson

In the aftermarth of the Asian Tsunami in 2004 I had been evacuated from the island of Koh Phi Phi to the port of Krabi on the mainland some 48kms away. This was 56hrs after the waves and I was at the international hotel that had been set up as ane emergengcy centre for people to gather and get repatriated, get help and put their name on a list or check if loved ones had put their name on a list, that sort of thing. I was adding my name to said lists at a group of tables with 8 interpreters working away.

CHANCE MEETING

Met a couple travelling on motorail to Bolognia three weeks later driving on a remote B road in the Voges mountains in France needed to stop we spotted a couple walking up the road towards us--that's right the couple from the train we made many small changes in route and timing over the three weeks remarkable chance. regards

simultaneous words - read/heard

I use a computer for both writing and photography and listen to Radio 4 all day!!! I am amazed at the number of times I am reading or writing a word when it is spoken on Radio. Many times my cursor is hovering over a word of even a sign when it is vocalized on Radio. I have even had a word in my thoughts vocalized. This can happen 3/4 times a day. I'm not sure how long this has been happening but can certainly go back at least two years. I would love to know how common this is. Thank you Joy

old friend

I am from the UK. While I was travleling as a student in Crete in 1970 I met a student from Venezuela and we travelled together but i never exepcted to see him again. In 1974 I was training as a doctor in Chicago. As I stepped from the subway on State St (which has a saying that it the one street where you are bound to meet somone you know) he was there. He had no prior connection to the USA and was there visiting.
