Salcombe holiday
As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.
understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
We had a short break in apartments in Salcombe, Devon.
On our second day, I met a gentleman who was just leaving. I asked if he had a nice break and how did he find it?
All was good but he was leaving a day early due to his son having to play rugby.
As I'm a rugby follower, I asked him where he was you going. He was travelling to the North midlands to drop his son to an important England youth game.
He was an ex player and I asked him who he played with as a youngster. He told me he used to play for Coventry, which was a coincidence as my manager at work played there a while back.
It turned out he knew my manager!
I live just outside Bath and he was from the midlands and I thought it was just one of those things.
What are the chances of having a link when we live well away from each other, plus, the journey to Salcombe is 147 miles for me and around 250 mile for him
