Young Friends Reunited

As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

One weekend in 2003 when we all lived in the Leicestershire area we took our young grandsons for a weekend camping at the seaside at Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. The eldest who was 4 briefly made friends with another boy who lived somewhere in Northern Ireland. Two summers later in 2005 my daughter and her family moved to a small fishing village in Northern Ireland and our grandson started in a new school. In the same class was the boy he had met at Mablethorpe who lived just round the corner from their new home. They remain close friends.
