understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

A few years ago, my daughter and I went shopping in Watford, Hertfordshire, parking our maroon Renault Savanna estate car in a multi-storey car park. Returning to the car park later, we went to what we thought was the correct floor where, what we supposed was our car was parked. On trying the key in the lock I found that I couldn't open the door. Peering inside I realised it was not our car. The coincidences were: the same make, model and colour vehicle parked in the same position on the floor above where our car was parked. In addition, the registration number differed by only one digit. I found the coincidence so amazing that I went and bought a Lottery ticket, one of the few occasions I have ever done so. Needless to say, I didn't win - not even a tenner!

While parking a car we must choose the right place and remember the place. The author has mentioned a incident which rarely happens with many people. Many times I also forget and open other cars bimistakely with my key. First thing is that we must keep our car key safely. I have a Toyota car. One day I parked my car then moved on but when returned I was searching for my car keys. My ">car keys lost so I have rang to the service centre for repairing. Then service person made a duplicate key of my car.
