Weird in Bergen
As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.
understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My Mother, who lived in Formby, Merseyside died approximately 3 years ago but had some very good friends and Neighbours, Sheila and Charlie. They would keep an eye on her and make sure she was OK.
After Mum died we were up from our home in Bedfordshire to sort out the sale of the house and had a good friendship with Sheila and Charlie.
Once the house was sold we had a farewell meal with Sheila and Charlie and some of the other neighbours. After this we had no reason to visit Formby as regularly as we had in the past but spoke to our friends occassionally on the phone.
My Wife, Wendy, Son Tom and myself (Russ) had a cruise around the Norwegian Fjords booked some time after. When we docked at Bergen we arranged to go on a tour of the sites and when this had finished , rather than going back on board ship decided to go into the town centre.
While we were walking over a zebra crossing in the centre of Bergen I recognised Sheila and Charlie on the same crossing just in front os us!
They were not on our cruise but were touring Norway by land with another group and both parties had no idea the other was in Norway..
Big hugs and hello's in the middle of a busy zebra crossing in Bergen is not recommended!
How weird is that!
