understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My mother was born in 1915. After her mother died she was fostered by a school friend of her mother and lived in Surrey. Her foster mother's maiden name was Charlton. I moved to Swindon in 1970 and married in 1974. My wife's parents were from the North East and moved to Swindon in the mid-sixties.
My wife's mother's maiden name was Charlton.
