understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I live in Birmingham, UK. In the summer of 1991, I was lucky enough to go on an exchange programme with a secondary school in Adelaide, Australia.
In around 1996, I was having a long weekend in the tiny fishing village of Coverack, Cornwall, UK. I got talking to someone in the pub there (which I rarely do); she was from Adelaide and it turned out that she knew my Australian exchange partner.
