understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

When I was a child, my parents bought a camper van through an ad in the classifieds. The man who sold it to us lived a few hours drive from our house. That summer, we drove 1600 miles to the east coast of Canada. We stayed in a camp ground with no one else there but one guy with a van: it was the man who had sold us our van.
