understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

While on holiday in San Francisco we were invited to lunch with a family we had met. They asked us our travel plans and we told them we were travelling on to Phoenix to visit friends, describing how this couple had a holiday house there but lived in Wales where they had a business called Bacchante Crafts producing screen printed slate products. The family said they had bought some coasters like that when they visited England, they showed them to us and printed on the back of the coaster was our friends label, Bacchante Crafts, Wales.
