understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
In 1993 while on holiday on a small Hebridean island (Colonsay), my husband and I went on a boat trip with the only two other tourists on the island. The only other person to come along was the island's resident naturalist. During the trip we found that the naturalist, one of the other tourists and I had all worked at South East Derbyshire College, a small college 400 miles away which was only in existence for about 15 years.
