understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Some years ago we were on holiday in Tunisia and went on a trip to the Sahara desert which included an overnight stay in a hotel. For the evening meal we sat beside a mother and teenage daughter and started to chat. It turned out that the daughter went to the University of the town we live in and studied biochemistry and her course lecturer was our next door neighbour!!
