understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My neighbour a Mr Bob Flux- Sales Director for NEI Parsons was assigned to the USA for a year and rented his house in Epsom Downs to an American couple Mr & Mrs Basler- the European Sales Director for Bell Helicopters.
Just prior to Xmas the Baslers went for a meal to a restaurant in Wimbledon where they had a great evening. A week or so later the Flux's came to Southampton to spend Xmas with relatives, and they went to a nice restaurant.During the course of the evening they talked to a couple on the next table and mentioned that they were on vacation having rented their house in Epsom Downs to an American couple. "What a coincidence. We were in a restaurant in Wimbledon last week and got talking to two Americans in England on an assignment." They then produced a photograph of- you've guessed it- the Baslers.
