Randomly reunited

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

My best friend as a little girl was named Jeni. We went to the same church, and, when we were old enough, the same school. Then her family moved and we no longer went to the same school, but coincidentally a year later my family moved to a house only two houses down from her family. We were now neighbors and classmates once again. Then her family moved across the United States to Pennsylvania and we were pen pals and I traveled to visit her. Later her family moved to California and I continued to write and went to visit. Then her family moved back to our town and we lost touch. We both made plans for college and coincidentally not only enrolled in the same school, we ended up in neighboring dormitory rooms.
