understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Years ago, I texted my friend Kath with the silliest thing I could think of, which was 'Put that sausage down! You don't know where it's been!'
I forgot about it until I saw her again a few weeks later. The text had arrived when Kath was walking down the main street eating a sausage bap! She was convinced that I had been watching her from a shop window or something and I could never persuade her otherwise.
