Paris - and Bearded Collies

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I heard your "appeal" for coincidences on Radio 4 this morning and thought you'd like these:
1. Some years ago our son and his wife went to Paris for the weekend. To my surprise I discovered that, if necessary, they were going to spend a whole day looking for the building where my husband and I had a flat some 38 years before! I had to search for the address and sent it to them. They had booked their hotel at random over the Internet but, when they got there and opened the map wondering just where to start, they discovered that they were IN THE VERY BUILDING they were searching for! It had become an hotel about 7 years before that! (As a corollary - they then gave us a night in the hotel for Christmas and we found ourselves in our old bedroom!)
2. We registered with the Bearded Collie Association for a "second-hand Beardie" and were vetted by Alison to see whether we would make suitable owners. When we got Oggy I took him round to show her and she asked where we found him. I said we'd been down to Port Isaac in Cornwall (nearly 3 hours from here by car) to collect him. She then told me that they were going to that village the next day and taking their 2 "Beardies". Later she phoned to say the lady with whom they were to stay had phoned to ask what dogs they were taking. Alison answered "2 Beardies" and the lady said, "Oh, I love Beardies and, do you know, we had one here till yesterday" and Alison replied, "You mean Oggy!?"
3. We have now had 3 Beardies, all rescue dogs and therefore they came with their names - Doone, Kyle and Oggy. We then discovered that our new next-door neighbours had 2 dogs (and then they got a puppy) and their names were Roone, Kyla and Aggy!
Good luck with your search for coincidences.
