understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

In December 2012, we called a local church (we had never attended) to make a contribution, and were told a member would come to our house to pick up. When he arrived, we thought his name was familiar and found that my wife and I met at his 50 miles distant grandparents house 50 years ago. Further, his uncle was best man at our wedding in 1964.
