Nice cheater story

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I was backpacking through Europe in 1990 (before Facebook existed) and ended up in a dorm room in Nice, France with four beds. Two other girls arrived separately during the day, one from Philadelphia and one from Boston. As we were all single travellers we started to hang out together. The girl from Philly was telling us that she had come to Europe because she had just broken up from her long-term boyfriend. He was commuting to Boston for work and she had suspected he was having an affair there. Afterwards the girl from Boston told me that she was somewhat surprised to hear his name and details as she was the girl he had been cheating with! She was totally unaware he had had a girlfriend back in Philly.... Well now she knew.
