understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My uncle went for an eye check up at Shrewsbury Hospital. At the waiting room the nurse entered and asked for John Davies. My uncle and another chap got up. Not an uncommon name for mid Wales.
OK, date of birth. They were both born on the same day in 1927. OK, middle name. Neither had a middle name. They did, of course, have different addresses and the problem was solved.
