understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I once owned a small house by Brissago Switzerland.I had little time to enjoy it so decided to let it for a year.A couple from Texas came to see it,loved it and rented it for one year. All the papers were signed and they moved in.We celebrated by dring " red beer " on the terrace. I was introduced to the idea of pouring tomato juice into beer to make " Texan Red Beer ". The rent ceased being paid into my account after about 6 months and the neighbours said that the couple had left. About one year after that I was standing with my wife looking at Canterbury Cathedral, I took one step back and stood on someone's toe. I turned round to apologise and there he was,my tenant together with his wife. I am 6ft 4 inches my tenant was about 5ft 4 inches so he complained that I had hurt his toe. I complained that he had hurt my wallet. Neither of us lived in Caterbury or the UK. Nevertheless, quite a coincidence.
