understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
September 11th Memorial Concert
Last September I took part in a memorial concert in The Lincoln Centre, New York to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. When I booked into my Manhattan hotel, I was given the key card to my room which happened to be Room 911.
On the same occasion, my son and my husband bought a ticket to the concert, completely independantly, about 4 months apart. The concert hall holds about 4,500 people and my husband ended up sitting just 2 seats in front of my son.
