understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I was travelling to work last week and came across a car, broken down, with two young ladies standing by it. I stopped to ask if they needed help but they were fine - Dad was on the way. This was about 6-8 miles from Bangor, north Wales on a road which could have taken several routes to various locations.
Later that day I left work to buy lunch and enroute to one place changed my mind and went instead into Bangor to Morrison's supermarket - I did a bit of shopping and then went to pay - who was standing behind me in the queue but the two girls and they were actaully telling their friend about breaking down that morning!
Of all the checkouts in all the stores - we were next to each other!
