understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I went to a cinema in New Zealand to see a film I am from the UK and had just moved out here. There was a problem with the film so the owner came and apologised to us. As we were going in the owner noticed a jumper I was wearing with the name of a small Scottish island on it I had been working on the island the previous summer. He came from that remote island and went to school there. I then moved into a house in the same town only to find a large picture of an old map from the very same island.
