Many coincidences in my life lead me to believe that I am a witch!

As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

1. My eldest daughter, gave birth to my grandaughter on 4th November 1996. My younger daughter gave birth to my grandson on 4th November 2004. My niece gave birth to my great niece on 4th November 2009. This means that both my husband and his brother, have daughters who gave birth on November 4th. As you can imagine, none of the children are too happy about sharing their birthday with 2 other members of the family. Not only that, my younger daughter was born on her father's birthday, 28th February. 2. This week I was having a new washing machine installed by a delivery company. I live in Hornchurch, Essex and the company delivers all over the country. When I asked them where they were going next, they said Upminster, which is the next town to us. So that I could direct them to use the best route, I asked which road, and the said The !!!!, so I said Oh, my friend lives there. They said Number !!! which is actually my best friend's address. Amazingly she was having an entirely different make of fridge/freezer installed by them on their next call. Neither I, nor my friend, knew either of us where having new products, let alone that they be delivered on the same day by the same company. 3. Moments ago I was listening to the radio, and the travel presenter said there was trouble in Rookery Road, Clapham, just as I was reading in the newspaper the word 'rookie'. Not the same word, but still rather odd. 4. My niece is married to a twin whose surname is Moore. Her brother is engaged to a twin whose surname is also Moore. Absolutely no relation to each other and from entirely different parts of the UK. 5. On a recent trip to St Lucia, we shared a hotel transfer bus with six people. AFter chatting for a while we realised that one couple live only a quarter of a mile away from us. They had booked through an entirely different company to us, so the chances of meeting them on a bus was pretty remote! Hope you find my little oddities interesting, they are quite varied, but may be of some use to you. Kind regards Brenda Read Hope you find my little oddities interesting
