understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I booked a sailing holiday in Portoheli, Greece in May 1984. There were only about a dozen people in the small group. A couple of days into the holiday, I found out that one of the other participants worked at an institutiion I had worked at several years previously. He knew some of the same people I had known there. So far, not so amazing, perhaps, but we had each brought with us as holiday reading a copy of the same paperback book - 'The Collector' by John Fowles. Spooky.
Peter.
