understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Forty years ago, whilst staying at my (then) girlfriend's parents' home in Lincolnshire, I returned home from my student's summer job and let myself into the house. Only once indoors did it strike me - I hadn't been given a key for their house! It was my own parents' house key (Yale type) from London that had worked. After that, I had to marry my girlfriend ... obviously!
