understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
During my teens I experienced a couple of nervous breakdowns which involved me seeing psychiatrists.
My first one was Dr.Franks, when I lived up north in Blackburn in 1991. Imagine how terrifying, during my second major period of (already heightened anxiety & paranoia) when I met my new psychiatrist in South East London later that year & discovered he was Dr Stein!
