understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Me and my brother went to Callao Salvaje in Tenerife for the first time and walked along a dark unlit coastal path to the next resort down and went to a bar which we stayed at until closing.As we were the last ones there the manager spoke to us as he was closing up and offered to give us a lift back to our hotel as it was in the place he had his apartment.He spoke of his daughters looking at the clear starry skies and so on and I always remebered his four wheel drive vehicle with an inclination level thing on the dash.He was Irish descent.
Forward about 15 maybe more years and me and my brother are in a group on a lads holiday in Benidorm and on the first morning I go to see our tour rep,the others too drunk from the previous night to bother.She was very chatty and I relayed the above story when she told me she used to live in Tenerife.After hearing about our lift and exchanging facts it turned out to be her dad who gaves us a lift in Tenerife and she was one of the daughters he mentioned who watched the starry skies from the roof of the pub.I was gobsmacked and went to tell my brother who was equally amazed...
