understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

15 years ago on holiday in wales from our home in Essex we climbed mount Snowdon, at the top there is a big concrete/ stone pile that every one want to climb to be the higherst person in Britain, When My eldest son climbed up there he was surprised to have someone bang him on the foot and say dont I know you from the Square? ( a music venue where we live) . So hundreds of miles from home, the only person on top of a mountian and some one from home knew him!
