understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My husband and I married in 1883 when he joined me, from Buckinhamshire, in Brighton. Some thirty years before he had been head teacher at a small country school in Yorkshire, with, at most, some twenty-five pupils.
Invited to my son's barbeque, he was in conversation with one of the guests, who suddenly recognised my husband as having taught him in Yorkshire when he was five years old.
