understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
In mid-2001 I was on an overnight course and chatting to others on the course [who I had never met before]. Music arose and one colleague mentioned he had played the harmonica on the 1960's hit 'My boy lollipop' by 'Millie Small' - some 40 years previously.
I then went to my hotel bedroom and listened to a Radio 2 programme presented by 'Suggs', the lead singer for 'Madness', who played the Millie Small track and when the track had finished asked the audience to let him know who the harmonica player was on the track!
This seemed like a 'coincidence' to me - and still does.
