understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
A few months ago I stayed with an old school friend overnight after the reunion we had organised to celebrate the school's 50 years. We were the top year when it opened, but I had not seen her for nearly 48 years. I moved away from the area and now live about 50 miles away. When I entered her house I noticed that her hall rug was the same as our hall rug. When I sat in their living room I noticed that they have the same two two seater settees with an additional storage box seat. It felt really odd when I noticed that we have the same wallpaper in our living room that we decorated a year ago. Her dining room furniture is the same type of wood as ours.
