understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

It was Friday 13th and i was driving home 5 girls who'd been the juvenile dancers in the pantomime 'Cinderella' at our local theatre for the last 6 weeks and had just been to watch their 'opposite team' in it on their night off. We were driving through a junction when we were hit by another car turning right into our path. It was a nasty end to a fabulous night but when eventually i'd completed all the paperwork the police needed, the policeman handed me the other driver's details and I just couldn't believe what her first name was - Cinderella!
