understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I am about to visit the loo when an unexpected parcel drops through the front door. I open it and it is a present of poet Douglas Dunn's 'The Year's Afternoon'. I take the book into the downstairs loo with me but the extractor fan there is noisy and does not go with poetry. So I migrate to the bathroom upstairs,. I sit down, open the book at random and read:
'The Expelair in the lavatory -
Relentless thing - is a better orator
Than I would want to be'
