understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My friend invited me to his golf club Pro-Am. There were prizes for good play and one drawn from a hat with 250 names. My name came out.
4 weeks later, I invited the same friend to the Pro-Am at my club. Same deal: prizes for good play and one drawn from a hat. Yes, you guessed it: his name came out of the hat with 120 entrants.
The prize: a week's golf in Mauritius!
