understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Last week in New York I gave a talk about opera houses. I told the rather obscure story of King Gustav III of Sweden who was assassinated in 1792 in the lobby of the opera house he had built in Stockholm. He was assassinated during a masked ball.
After the talk a Swedish lady came up to me and told me she was related to one of the assassins.
This coincidence is separated by 220 years and two continents.
