Coincidence around myself and your programme!
As of the 23rd May 2022 this website is archived and will receive no further updates.
understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
At the age of 39 and possibly having a mid life crisis, I have been recently considering purchasing my first ever leather jacket. My older brother had one when we were teenagers and there was always a part of my that was jealous. Last weekend I spent some time searching the internet for jackets and tried to imagine which I might look and feel good wearing. This was tricky and I gave up deciding to wait until we went to the shops. Fast forward to yesterday, I bought the Times newspaper and lo and behold there is an article on leather jackets warning the reader that it can make you look like a rock star one minute and then a gangster the next. A coincidence? perhaps, but not too strange. Anyway this morning I decided to catch up with your programme which I had missed in the week and just after the piece on this website who should pop up, but the cricketer who wrote the article on the leather jackets.
This was the turning point for me getting up and posting this article.
