understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
Birth Parellel Lives
I was about 14 years old and had just moved to a new school from the North of England to Hertfordshire. I was sitting next to a girl in the art class, chatting and mentioned I had been born in Africa (quite unusual as I am white middle class!). She said she had too. What part? Nigeria. Where in Nigeria? Cameroons. Where in Cameroons? Tiko. I was born there too. We were born in the same hospital at the same time. My parents remembered her parents. I was shocked. I am now 58 and still remember it vividly.
