understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

Partner grew up in Kempsey NSW Australia. Moved away in 1996. In 1998 while
working in Cambridge England, we went on day trip
to Greenwich. Standing on platform when light rail
train rolled in, he yelled "that's my neighbour".
Ran down platform, it was the family who lived next
door to his parents in Australia. Another day, 5 minutes later,
and if they hadn't been sitting in the front of the driverless
train we never would have seen them. They were
on their first holiday to the U.K.
