understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I met a girl at antenatal classes, she was sitting next to me. Our due dates were the same (04-07-03) but we both delivered early on 02-07-03. We both had six hour labour for this, our first child. (mine a boy hers a girl) We are both called Caroline and we are both born in July. We are both very short and married to tall men. Our husbands are both born in April. We were both qualified teachers. (I was a senior school teacher she was a junior school teacher). We drove the same car (mine blue hers red). My initials became CJD when I got married, hers were CJD until she got married. We both had 3 babies in total. Needless to say we became very good friends but she now lives in Australia!
