understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My father died before my baby was born and as Dad and I had been so close I was desperate to have a little boy and to give him Dad's name. The baby was due at the end of October and despite having my 4 previous babies more or less on their exact due date, this baby came very early - in September. He was the little boy I had longed for and I did name him after my Dad.The hospital kept us in a few days and decided to send us home on September 28. That was the anniversary of my Dads death. I felt he had come home with us on that very unexpected date.
