understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
i dreamed my bike, which i had locked at oxford rail station on the way to work, had been stolen. when i got to work i told my colleague my dream, and he mentioned he had found a bike saddle bag on the road on his way to work in london. no big deal.
when i got back to oxford station that evening my bike had not been stolen, but the saddle bag with all the tools, had been!
