understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I was born in Aug. 1944 so remember nothing about the war. One night in early 80s I was about to go to bed when I thought 'in the war they used to fill the kettle up before going to bed in case the mains were bombed in the night' so I filled the kettle. In the morning, on the doormat, was a card from the water company apologising for having to turn the water off.
