understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

We had been looking for a house for 6 months. After having deals fall short and being outbid serveral times, we were to the end of our road in finding one but still desperately hoping a new listing would pop up on Trulia (a house searching website). My background is in music and while looking through DVDs at the library I see, Musical Minds. One night I am watching it... it is the part where Oliver Sacks talks about his love for Bach. He is about to go into his MRI when I hear, "look at this new listing". So I go to the computer with the DVD playing in the background. Ends up the house is on BACH COURT. I didn't really put the two together until we bought the house. Ends up the subdivision streets are named after famous composers. I'm not sure what my connection is to Dr. Sacks but there is no doubt at how strange of a coincidence it was to be watching that DVD, Sacks is talking about Bach and I now live on a street named Bach. I use to live in this town but moved away for 10 years. Because of family deaths and loosing my family home, I had been avoiding anything to do with this town. Coming to terms with it after my child was born, I decided to move back. This subdivision (which is named after music too) was built 6 years after I left and I had no idea it existed. Because of buying this home, I am back in my home town. The subdivision is in-between where my parents lived and my brother died in a car accident. Not sure if that's relevant or not. I also have a connection to the town over where I have met a person in various spots around the world who shared a name with this town (first meeting in Texas). I never really associated it until recently at how weird it was to run into this person at places I don't frequent. Ends up it is named after a family with the same name and I'm not sure if they are somehow related. The founder of the town lived on a street name after my home town. Myself, Sacks and this person are all connected through music.... which is beyond weird because of the title of the documentary... Musical Minds. I would love to discuss this with Oliver Sacks because he plays a major role in this coincidence. It's all very surreal just the fact that whenever I drive into my subdivision I see musical notes. It truly seems like a musical match made in heaven... but I do wonder if there is a deeper meaning behind all this or how we are all connected or if anything is going on in their ends. I guess the biggest link is same names... name of person & town and Sacks mentioning Bach while I simultaneous find a house on a steet named Bach. Funny that they all involve places not far from one another too.
