understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
In 1995 I wrote a novel based on the reported vanishings associated with the Bermuda Triangle.
It attempted to support the theory of parallel worlds and involved an asteroid colliding with the earth in the area of the Gulf of Mexico some 65 million years ago.
The detail of the novel is unimportant, however it was completed a few months before scientists discovered the Chicxulub crater in that very area, caused by an asteroid which they believe possibly wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago!
I found this almost too much of a coincidence to believe!
