understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
I was staying with friends on the outskirts of Manchester on a fairly large estate. We went shopping and on the way back were stuck behind a bald headed old gentlemen in a red Avenger doing about 3 miles an hour with no way to pass. After 10 minutes or so he turned off leaving us highly stressed. On arriving back I told Sue about our frustration and the old gentleman in the red Avenger, she turned round and said, Oh so you have met my father then!
