understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
My niece was on holiday in Africa at a Game Reserve. Standing in the bar overlooking the landscape one evening she got talking to a young man. He asked where she was from and she replied 'Banstead' and asked where he lived.
He said he came from Dunstable which is where I was living with my two children, my nieces cousins. She jokingly asked if he knew her cousins and was amazed when he said that he had gone to school with the elder boy.
