understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I went to a printing workshop in a local independently run class in Sheffield UK. There were 10 people in the class. I got chatting to the woman opposite me. She was Austrian and it turned out she was a good friend of my cousin who is also Austrian and lived in Vienna. She also had a studio in the arts centre where I worked and when she gave me her business card I saw that she also lived in the same house I lived in 20 years previously. We were both more than a little incredulous and suspicious, both believing the other to be making it up.
