understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

Whilst visiting relatives in the North of England (I was living in Oxford at the time) we decided to have a day out in Newcastle. On arrival the first thing we did was head for a coffee shop, where I noticed a lady I worked with in Oxford, I went over and said "Hello fancy seeing you here are you visiting too" she looked at me blankly, then smiled and said I think you are getting me mixed up with my twin sister - she lives in Oxford.
