understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
On Saturday morning's my friend and I take our dogs and go for a run. This morning I was a couple of minute late as I had picked up a book to look at. (We are book dealers and lots of books are stacked around.) The book was titled "Beyond Coincidence" by Martin Plimmer and Brian King.
As I apologised to my friend for being late she said she was also late because she had stopped to listen to David Spiegelhalter on the radio talking about coincidence. "But" I said, "the book I was reading was on coincidence!"
